Why Ski Park City?

The location is great--really great. After you land at the Salt Lake International Airport, you are only a 30 minute shuttle ride to your Park City lodging. The drive from the airport is on I-80 which is the second-longest Interstate Highway in the United States. I-80 is a well-maintained, multi-laned thoroughfare that is kept clear of winter snow. Unlike so many other resorts, you won't have to traverse a twisting, hazardous mountain road to arrive at your destination.

Park City is home to more than a dozen bars and scores of top-notch restaurants. Park City is also home to Utah's largest outlet shopping mall.

There are three ski resorts in Park City all within a five mile radius:

Park City Mountain Resort (7,300 acres)
Deer Valley (2,026 acres)

There are a number of other major ski areas within 45 minutes of the Salt Lake International Airport. These resorts include Snowbird, Alta, Brighton, Solitude, Snow Basin, Powder Mountain, and Sundance. The large number of resorts in such a small area means that the crowds at the Park City resorts tend to be lighter than at most world-renowned ski areas.

Utah is home to the greatest snow on earth! Why is Utah's snow so good? It primarily has to do with the high elevation and low humidity in the region. Utah's mountains are surrounded by high desert, so there is no excess moisture in the air to cause flakes of snow to stick together. As a result, Utah's snow tends to be light and fluffy--the perfect powder!

The Park City area receives an abundance of snow due in part to the "lake effect" from the Great Salt Lake. The air over the Great Salt Lake is usually warmer than the air in winter storms. As cold fronts pass over the lake, they collide with warmer air rising off the water. As a result, the storms are intensified and produce more precipitation, especially when they collide with the Wasatch range that juts up more than 7,000 feet from the Salt Lake Valley floor.

The average snowfall in Park City is over 320 inches per year. The Powder days are phenomenal! Because of the consistently good snow and the facilities built for the 2002 Winter Olympics, Park City is home to the US Ski Team. Many of the venues from the Olympics remain and are used to train future olympians. Park City is also home to the world-famous Sundance Film Festival.

Come and enjoy our perfect winter wonderland. See for yourself why Park City is the best choice for your winter vacation.
